Jodie Strum is a Principal at Atlantic Real Estate Capital, joining Atlantic in early 2014 after a successful 10+ year career with John B. Levy & Company. Her experience includes originating, underwriting, closing, and servicing commercial loans for a variety of property types and lenders. With the retirement of Atlantic founder and Principal, Tom Mueller, in 2014, Jodie has played a key role in the next chapter of Atlantic’s growth.
Jodie provides access to capital for real estate developers and owners and leverages her past experience in financing projects of all types, including multi-family, office, medical, hospitality, industrial, flex and retail, and uses her broad market knowledge, extensive contacts, and wide-ranging experience to elevate Atlantic Real Estate Capital’s market presence and geographic footprint.
Jodie has built an extensive network of connections over the years and has facilitated more than $2B worth of debt and equity transactions. Her deal experience spans the entire country and all property types. She specializes in the strategy and structure behind complex financing placements and has advised on development, construction, permanent, bridge and mezzanine transactions. She has successfully executed deals through various capital sources including, but not limited to, institutional, private equity, hedge fund, conduit, and more traditional bank financing.
Prior to joining John B. Levy & Company, Jodie worked for a large brokerage firm, sourcing deals and underwriting various investment opportunities. She started her career in the finance department of the largest publicly held, female-owned public relations firm in the United States, where she was responsible for the budgeting and forecasting for six offices and all clients.
Jodie has held various leadership and chair positions within industry organizations over the years, most recently as the President of Commercial Real Estate for Women — Richmond Chapter (3 year Board Position) where she won their 2015 Award for “Top 25 Women to Watch.” Jodie is also a past Membership Chair for ULI Virginia and was Co-Chair of their annual Vision Awards. She is a Member of the Real Estate Circle of Excellence with the VCU School of Business, a member of GRACRE, and an active board member for Richmond Friends of the Homeless.
On a personal front: Jodie is an active community volunteer with multiple local charitable organizations, including Comfort Zone Camp, Culather Brain Tumor Clinic, and Connor’s Heroes. She enjoys spending time with her son, Wyatt, dining out and makes it a point to travel internationally at every opportunity.
